What Causes Numbness In Hands And Feet While Treating High BP?
I have recently been instructed to cut my medication for high blood pressure in half. This I have done and I feel much better...could the change in medication have caused the numbness to occur? The meds were metropolol 200 mg a day and lisinopril 25 mg a day. I have also been instructed to take 25 mg of hydrochlorothiazide for water retention.
Vitamin B12 deficiency, blood vessel clogging, cardiac cause
Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.
Thank you for writing to us.
I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. Given your age and the information I have at hand, the most likely causes would be:
+Nutritional deficiencies: E.g. vitamin B12, so I would strongly recommend immediate initiation of a vitamin B complex capsule (once daily), and also a blood test to check on your vitamin B12, B6, and B3 levels for confirmation
+Artherosclerosis: I would thus recommend a Doppler ultrasound and also a lipid profile to rule out/confirm this cause
+Check on cardiac profile is also recommended
I have listed the possible causes in order of their likeliness, and so would recommend you discuss them with your doctor ma'am. But in majority of such cases, the cause is a vitamin B12 deficiency, which is why I have requested you to initiate a vitamin B complex capsule as soon as possible (even before your doctors visit), and I am sure you should experience some amount of relief.
I hope you find my response helpful and informative. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for any further clarifications, I am always here to help.
Best wishes.
