What Causes Numbness Under The Eye,side Of Nose And Lip After An Injury?

Question: Hi - had a car accident 1 week ago today in which the side air bag deployed and hit me across the cheekbone and I have a black eye. Got an xray of the orbits and it was inconclusive. Swelling has diminished and I'm largely left with facial bruising. I have some numbness under the eye, side of nose and lip. Should I be concerned?

Brief Answer: Hi and welcome to HCM Detailed Answer: Thanks for the query. This is normal simptomatology after such injuries and symptoms may persist for up to 4 weeks. It happens due to subcutanoeus oedema which presses facial nerves in this area so you may feel parasthesias or burning pain. Also there may be traumtic neuropathia of trigeminal nerve. in every case, there is no specific treatment but resting. If symptoms persist or worsen then cortcicosteroids may be prescribed but this is not necessary at this point. If you start to have vision difficulties,you should visit doctor again. Thanks Dr! I have no vision problems. I took an eye test at the urgent care and I was 20-10. Can I do anything to decrease the swelling/bruising? Warm compresses on the area?

Brief Answer: hi Detailed Answer: Yes,you can put some compresses and if there is visible hematoma,you can apply heparin gel on it. But it will pull back in short time. It is important that there is no orbit fracture and eye muscles damage. Everything else is less important
