What Causes Occasional Body Tremors In An Elderly Person?

default
Posted on Wed, 31 May 2017
Question: II am 83 yrs. of age and generally healthy, but occasionally experience periods of the feeling of shaking, which is not evidenced by external shaking, but feeling like I'm going to explode. It appears anytime in day or night .IF It appears at night it makes it impossible to sleep. External rubbing of my body helps some, but does not stop it. It can last from minutes to hours. It does not seem to be related to any meds I take or any activity. The only thing it reminds me of, is when I had atrial Fib., but my heart rate feels normal during these episodes which occur suddenly and also IS Normal during these episodes, which come out of " the blue" and may last minutes to sometimes hours. There is no sweating, no abnormal heart rate or pain. but I feel like I'm to explode.Have discussed this with my Internist and cardiologist, have had EKGS, Labs done with no negative results and no one seems to have answers which I really need! Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Need to have more information as following

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX J,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

You say to have this feeling like to explode (out of the blue), with no known external or internal cause.

1. Taking into account your personal history of atrial fibrillation, your heart sometimes does not work properly to pump the blood adequately.

This can alter the blood supply of the peripheral organs and explaining your current problems.

A good thing is your Holter monitor and EKG were fine, so it's a temporary feeling.

2. Next, I advise monitoring your blood pressure and sugar levels especially at the time you experience this episode.
Record the results to let your doctor analyze further.

3. Sometimes, eating a heavy meal can take hard to digest. This can be also associated with unexpected feeling like to explode.
Here I need to ask if you are also having problems with digestion? bloating? burping?

4. Next, I need to ask if you are having any pain anywhere in the body during this episode?

5. We should exclude organic problems first before admitting it's due to your age (83).

Looking forward to having the requested information in.
