Steroid Abuse" or "Steroid dependence" & fungal infection at thigh area
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome again and thanks for posting your details with pictures.
After analyzing your query along with pictures I can make out two important things:
-"Steroid Abuse" or "Steroid dependence"
- Fungal infection at thigh area
To tell you elaborately regarding both the conditions:
"Steroid Abuse" or "Steroid dependence" is quite common phenomenon where after long term, injudicious and unregistered use of steroid creams without medical advice lead to the multiple side effects. Topical steroid creams are potentially known to cause side effects on long term or injudicious use in form of thinning of skin, hair growth on affected area and prominence of vessels with rashes.
In your case you have applied Betnovate which contains Betamethasone in it. This is a strong potency steroid and is never to be used beyond 15 days. I very often see person of your age using this cream and damaging the skin. This causes dependence and then redness which progresses to form thin skin and striae over the affected area.
Regarding fungal infections: these are common type of infections those can affect anybody at any site. But more commonly it affects the areas which are more prone for sweating or moist areas (as in your case). More specifically these are related to the hygiene and environmental factors along with certain systemic complaints as in hormonal problem such as diabetes.
Due to hot and humid climate or due to tight and synthetic clothing, it leads to growth of fungus at any part of the body.
There is itching followed by mild rashes for which it is a common practice to apply betnvoate or panderm or related creams with steroids. This leads to the kind of problem which you are experiencing presently.
I can see both the signs of "Steroid Abuse" and Fungal infections. For the betterment kindly follow the suggestion below:
- Keep yourself away from hot and humid climate.
- Take two times bath.
- Wear cotton clothes and cotton undergarments to be changed two times a day. Do not wear any synthetic or tight garments.
- Do cold compression or warm water compresses according to the weather condition.
- Do not sit continuously for long hours.
-Don't try to scratch or rub the area as can lead to further aggravation of the problem.
- You can use any good antiperspirant powders daily to avoid future infection.
- Reduce your weight if it is on higher side.
Fr the part of treatment proper:
I suggest my patents to apply latest anti-fungal creams such as “clotrimazole”or "Sertaconazole" or "Amorolfine " and take anti-fungal tablets according to medical advice.
- I suggest my patents to take oral anti histamine like loratadine or levocetrizine two times a day under medial advise if there is moderate to severe itching is present.
It is a must to stop the cream at the earliest. For the betterment you need to meet a dermatologist who can take off the steroidal side effects slowly with different medications. You need to have patience of multiple months to get off from the situation.
I hope this information's will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help.
"Wish you good health and early recovery from the problem"

Steroid Abuse" or "Steroid dependence" & fungal infection: suggestions.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome back and thanks a lot for your swift follow up.
The treatment plan I have given is only to be used under supervision and I humbly request you to not to do the same mistake of self application. I personally request you to not to use any medication as self implicated therapy.
Your skin is already quite damaged, so it would be best to meet a dermatologist and get a supervised treatment to have earliest relief.
For the problem of hot and humid weather:
- Take two times bath.
- Wear cotton garments and cotton undergarments. The clothes should be loose enough to have easy drying of sweat at the earliest.
- Change your undergarments for two times daily.
- Do not wear any synthetic or tight clothes.
- Use an antiperspirant powder for two times.
I quite often treat your kind of condition and it requires few months of period to get better by proper medications. It is definitely possible to get better and the condition is treatable so do not worry about the same.
I hope this information's will help you. If you have further queries I will be happy to help.
