What Causes Orange Stool In A Child?
Information
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,
The most common reason for orange stool in a child that doesn't have other symptoms (no fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation) is due to something that she ate. It can be from artificial food colors, especially those that contain yellow or orange, or from foods that are high in beta carotene (which gives carrots their orange color). These include apricots, carrots, cilantro, collard greens, fresh thyme, XXXXXXX sweet potatoes, spinach, turnip greens, and winter squash.
If the orange color is due to artificial coloring, or to foods, it should resolve within 2 days.
If, however, the orange color continues or she develops other symptoms, then make sure to take her to the doctor for evaluation. But most likely this will resolve soon if it is due to artificial coloring or food.
