default
Posted on Mon, 5 May 2014
Question: Hi, I am a male 54 years old, 6 ft 3 inches tall....260 pounds but in relatively good shape except for being diabetic. I have just developed a pain, warmth, burning below the bump below the left knee. When I get into bed at night I feel it the most...if I put all my weight on my left knee as I enter the bed...I feel it the most...it is an intense warm burning sensation. I just took some Advil and will try to avoid activities that highlight the left knee...any ideas what it is?

Brief Answer: Pre patella bursitis - tendonitis Detailed Answer: Hi, This could be a prepatella bursitis or inflammation in the fluid filled sac infront of the knee cap or patella tendon. Another differential would be a patella tendon tendonitis. The treatment for each condition is similar. Rest, ice and antiinflammatory medication. Physiotherapy and ultrasound therapy can be beneficial in the treatment on patella tendonitis. Occasionally a prepatella bursae can become infected and may require antibiotic treatment. I hope this information is of benefit to you. best wishes
