Brief Answer:
generally can last up to 36 hours

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The pain is related to trauma and subsequent inflammation of the esophagus.

The discomfort can last up to 36 hours , in some residual discomfort may remain for up to 48 hours.

The use of anti inflammatory pain killers would help to shorten the course of the pain. This includes medication such as ibuprofen, cataflam, naproxen etc

You should also avoid hot, spicy, acidic or hard foods. Use soft bland foods for this 24 to 36 hour period.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
