What Causes Pain And Swelling In Index Finger?
Question: I have a swollen index finger on my dominant hand x 4 days. Each day has gotten progressively worse. I can think of no trauma except for a possible sliver to the finger while I was adjusting unfinished wooden shelves. Most of the swelling is between my MCP and PIP joints and my PIP joint is painful only to touch. I assume that's from the swelling. It also feels warm to the touch and I'm becoming more sensitive to hot and cold. Again, I assume that's from the swelling too. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow afternoon. She's a naturopath. Can I wait until then or is this something that should be addressed now?
Brief Answer:
Better to get it evaluated soon.
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam,
Thanks for your query.
I have gone through the image provided. Pain and swelling seems to be inflammatory in nature. It could be due to infection in the area.
It is better to get it evaluated soon to rule out any infection in the area.
Till time give rest to your finger, take anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen to reduce pain and inflammation in the area.
Hope this helps you . Let me know if you have any more concern.
Take care.
