What Causes Pain And Swelling On Forearm Post Injection?
explained
Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome
I appreciate your concern.
First and foremost, compartment syndrome must be ruled out via a physical exam. I would advise you to go to the E.R to see for pain on passive extension and flexion of the digits.
An ultrasound of the upper limb to see for adequate blood flow should also be done. An X ray to detect any foreign body or bone disruption should be done. If inflammation or hematoma formation is increasing rapidly , corticosteroids may be injected locally into the area of swelling and inflammation. Antibiotics and drainage would be indicated if an abscess is suspected and subsequently confirmed by MRI.
You may take gabapentin and ibuprofen for the associated pain and tightness, a muscle relaxant may also be added eg tizanidine. Injection neuropathy should also be ruled out and would require a physical exam.
