What Causes Pain Behind Knee?
I have pain behind my left leg knee for three - four days. First couple of days it was just discomfort,
for the past couple of day it is painful to walk. No swelling or bruising behind the knee, I do have a little swelling on my foot. I don't not remember doing something to heart my leg, no jugging, no jumping exedra... I am 60 years old women, I do have high blood pressure, taking medications
for that. I try to keep my leg elevated and keep my knee in knee support also taking Advil.
My question is how I know the difference if I have Baker' cyst or deep vein thrombosis?
Do torch test.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have read your query.
Although it is difficult to diagnose between baker cyst and deep vein thrombosis by a patient himself, even deep vein thrombosis itself is a complication of baker cyst, but I am explaining you a test to differentiate it.
I baker cyst the area behind the knee may be swollen. You may shine a light through the swelling. If the light passes through it, the swelling is full of fluid. The swelling is therefore a cyst.
An ultrasound scan is a good investigation to show a Baker's cyst and to help to exclude a deep vein thrombosis at the same time. If still needed, I advise my patients MRI scan to confirm the diagnosis.
Baker cyst is commonly associated with arthritic knee, for this you need to have xray both knees standing in AP view and send me the report.
I hope you have got your answer.
Thanks.
Dr.Singh.
