What Causes Pain Between Shoulder Blades And Middle Of Breast?
Question: Hello,
I have a very dull ache that comes and goes between my shoulder blades and right in the middle of my breasts. It SLIGHTLY goes to the left breast area but more towards the center. The two areas are not at the same time. It's been one or the other- the upper back or chest. This has been going on for a couple days now. What are the possibilities? I keep googling it and so many possibilities come up with other symptoms though. I'm worried it's some type if cancer like breast or esophagus or lung. I am seeing other things online too so am confused. Please help.

Dear Madam,
Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that it will be very difficult to give you a diagnosis based on your history as it is not pin pointing towards a single diagnosis. The symptoms you listed are not the common ones that occur in a patient with cancers of breast, lung or the esophagus. However it would be worthwhile to undergo a cardiac check up. Test such as ECG , CXR PA and 2 D ECHO would be appropriate for the task.
As I said earlier it is very unlikely to be cancerous; but do get your breast and axilla examined by your surgeon. That should ease your mind.
The most common cause in most females is gastritis. Avoid spicy food and caffeinated drinks for few days or may take an antacid for the same and see if that makes a difference.

So are you saying it could be heart related? What are the possibilities?

Any kind of chest pain does require cardiac evaluation , there are no doubts for that but in your case since there is no history of heaviness or shortness of breath , abnormal sweating etc. it is unlikely to be cardiac but still needs to be ruled out .
