What Causes Pain During Foreskin Retraction?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: Hi.. I am trying to conceive. And while having sex without protection my husband feels pain as his foredkin goes up. So we use a condom with its tip removed or cut with scissors. I am worried if it will affect getting pregnant. Also, can some lubricant be used? Please suggest some which is sperm friendly.

Brief Answer:
Consult urologist,vaginal lubricant not advised

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Pain while retracting the foreskin is indicative of preputial adhesions or phimosis, which can be due to infection or can be a congenital condition from birth. I would suggest your husband to consult a urologist to get properly examined, investigated and treated accordingly.
Using condom with its tip removed can reduce the chances of conception as the condoms contain vaginal lubricants, and these are shown to rapidly decrease the sperm motility and thus making less number of sperms penetrate the cervical mucus, leading decreased rate of fertilization.
For the same cause mentioned above, vaginal lubricants are not recommended in patients trying to conceive. The pH and osmolality of almost all the vaginal lubricants present in market are harmful for the sperms and lead to decreased sperm motility and premature sperm death, decreasing the chances of conception.
I would suggest your husband to seek appropriate treatment from urologist, as this will give you both a permanent solution for your coital problem.
