What Causes Pain In Ankle After Playing Sports?

Question: Hi. I have a 13 year old daughter who plays sport. She has had an ongoing pain on the inside of her ankle. It appears to be where a tendon runs over the ball of the ankle. It is worse after sport and aches for days. She says he pain is always there but worse after sport. There is no significant / noticeble. redness or swelling. We took her to a specialist orth surgeon who said he thinks he can see a small crack but not sure and wanted to inject her with a needle or steroids. My wife didn't want to do this. Any ideas? She has just started her seasonal sport again (netball) and it is playing up and causing her to limp slightly.

Hello Sir,
I have read your case. As I am a sports injury specialist I see many young kids with such complaints.I agree with your wife's decision because injecting steroid in young kids without confirm diagnosis can be harmful. I would suggest you to get MRI scan of her ankle. This will provide us diagnosis.Following are the possibilities :
1. Tibialis anterior tendinitis
2. Cartilage injury in ankle
3. Ankle synovitis
4.Anterior tibiofemoral ligament weakness.

Please send me her MRI report. According to that we can plan her management.
