Question: I have a severe case of Asthma, Chronic Bronchitis, and Emphysema. I have had this condition for a long time, and I have a lot of medications including Mucinex 1200 mg twice a day; Spiriva; Qvar; Theophylline 300 Mg per day; Nebulizer treatments; Oxygen at home 2 liters at night; Advair; Antibiotics, a different one each month for 10 days, off 20 days, then the next one; Singular; 2 to or more times a year I am rushed to the hospital and spend 3 day to 10 in serious shape. The last time I was in the hospital (May of this year) I started having terrible pain in my back, above my waist, which causes me to bend over with the pain. It runs down the back of my legs and thigh also. At first the doctor said it was caused from coughing. Now he doesn't know what the cause is. The pain is terrible, what kind of doctor should I go to to find out what is wrong? Oh yes, also my doctor said part of my lungs have crystalized.

Brief Answer:
you are having lumbar disc herniation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have read your case and I believe that you are having lumbar disc herniation. In this condition due to sudden bout of coughing there is disc herniation in back which compresses nerves and it causes tingling and numbness at back of thigh and leg. Nature of pain is sharp shooting.
I would suggest you to show it to orthoapedic surgeon and get your clinical checkup and also MRI. This will confirmed the diagnosis.
Till you get this thing I would recommend you following.
1. Avoid bending forward or lifting heavy weight.
2. Take Pregabalin and Methylcobalamine tablet after discussing with your doctor.
3. Back muscle strengthening exercises.
I hope these measures will help you. Let me know if you want to ask any other question.
Thanks.
