What Causes Pain In Chest Area That Is Not Responding To Antacid?

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Mar 2015
Question: I woke up this morning with a pain in the center of my chest. Felt as though I had taken medicine that didn't go down. I took an antacid, the later took Omeprazole. Nothing had helped and everytime I swallow I can feel pain under the breastbone. I have eaten and have had liquids and nothing helps. Probably should have gone to dr. But was hoping it would go away. I am 64 yrs old and have HBP. Week before last I experienced episodes of extra heartbeats and my Metoprolol was increased from 1/2 to 1 25 mg tablet.

Brief Answer:
Cardiac problems should be excluded first...

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your symptoms may be related to GERD however cardiac disease should be excluded first. This is why i suggets to go to the ER to exclude any life threatening situation.

If you were my patient i would recommend the following examinations to find out the right etiology of your problem:
- ECG
- Cardiac ECHO
- Abdominal ultrasound
- Chest X ray
- Upper endoscopy

Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
