What Causes Pain In Chest Area While Coughing Post Injury?

Need not worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HealthcareMagic forum.
I understand your concern.
As you had a normal x ray and nothing abnormal was found on chest examination by your doctor, any significant fall related chest injury is unlikely.
Anyhow,as still you are having pain at the site during site, there might be some contusion.Phlegm indicates some respiratory tract infection. It is not related to fall unless it is blood stained.
So,you can use simple analgesics like paracetamol 650mg 3 times daily or ibuprofen 400mg 3 times daily(if not allergic, and not having other medical illnesses) along with antihistamines like Levocetirezine 5mg at night(to reduce phlegm) for 3-5 days.Levocetirezine can cause sedation-be cautious on driving etc.
But,if you are having fever,or if the phlegm is yellow in color, this needs antibiotics too,for which your doctor will guide you.
Also,if the pain is not coming down after 2 days of analgesics, get back to your doctor for a more detailed evaluation.
Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing for a faster and complete recovery.
Regards,Dr Aslam.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
As I mentioned, there might be some contusion that occurred during fall, causing pain.Cough,as I told,is unlikely related to fall-just a co incidence only(if cough was caused by fall, there must be some findings on x ray/chest examination or,sputum will be blood stained).
If you are taking analgesics and anti histamines,we can expect this to be over by 5-7 days.Anti histamines are also important,as persistent cough will delay resolution by causing recurrent stress at the site.
Hope now you got cleared.
Thank you.
