You're correct. You may need glasses. These are very common symptoms of eye strain. You can go to any eye store to get checked.

Brief Answer:
New glasses, diet high in vegetables, low in meats, high in vitamins

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,

Your eye is completely dependent on refraction and bending of light waves as they pass through the optical system of the eye. When there are refractory errors, such as in astigmatism, the eye is not able to focus the light and produce an image that a normal eye does produce. Specifically, in astigmatism, the cornea is shaped in a way that is not round, which causes visual blurriness due to the absence of a single point of focus. In other words, the light waves are scattered inappropriately due to the optical system not being perfectly round. If the eye can not focus the light and produce an image, then the brain can not understand the objects you are looking at. Therefore, most people will state they have difficulty seeing objects either near or far, difficulty reading, constant squinting, headaches, blurry vision, and eye pain. A lot these symptoms are caused by the muscles of the eye straining and overworking to try to make the optical system perfectly round again.

Most refractive errors may be present at birth and can increase in magnitude with age until the eye is fully developed. Often they are not detected until puberty. Some refractory errors are caused by trauma.

I would recommend getting a new pair of glasses. In addition or in the meantime, you can try to use only one eye at a time. For example, cover one eye when you are in bright lights. Surgery is the only definitive treatment for the astigmatism. Although refractive error is unaffected by diet, diet has been shown to be important for retinal health. Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and Zinc have been shown to decrease eye related disease. Smoking and diabetes are generally considered the worse for the eyes, along with diets high in cholesterol and fats.
