I would like you to see for the following things to see if you have a hernia:
-A swelling in the groin
-That pops out on standing or coughing or straining
-Reduces on laying down position
-Reduces on pressure.
-Is the pain associated to any such swelling if it is present

all thosequestios you asked me are true and it all happens. What kind of over the counter medication can I take to relieve the pain till I get home to see my doctor.
Brief Answer:
Examination by a Doctor to see if obstruction or any other reason for pain
Detailed Answer:
Sincere thanks for your feedback.
So this is a hernia.
Pain developing in the hernia is not a good symptom, as it may be suggestive of incarceration or obstruction and should be seen by the Surgeon ASAP to confirm or rule out this possibility.
If there is an obstruction which is not relieved within 6 hours, there is a chance of gangrene of the intestine if it is a part of obstruction in the sac.
It seems that you have already taken Ibuprofen and is not helping you. It is still one of the best one for the purpose. If Ibuprofen has not helped you, it gives me more reasons for you to be examined by the Doctor, preferably a General Surgeon. The reduction can be tried if it is within a few hours and the emergency may be over. This also helps to find out any other probable cause of pain and treat accordingly.
I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for more relevant queries or if you feel that there is a gap-of-communication.
