Detailed Answer:
Hello,
avelox is a quinolone drug. Quinolones may cause (or exacerbate) tendinitis particularly in the Achilles tendon (the heel). So the answer is that it could be the drug. What you've got to do, until you visit the orthopedics specialist or your doctor, is to apply ice for the first 2-3 days. The ice cannot be applied directly on the skin. You can use a towel to wrap the ice (or a cold pack). Apply the ice for 20 minutes every 2 hours. Avoid putting load on the injured leg (standing, climbing stairs, walking etc). You can use soft shoes with a slightly elevated heel to relieve the pressure on the tendon.
If you don't have any stomach, kidney, liver, history of allergy or cardiovascular problems you can try a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) like ibuprofen to relieve the pain for a few days. Remember to avoid using the drug with an empty stomach or if you have burning pain or sensation on the upper abdomen or chest.
Try to visit your doctor as soon as possible, because this discussion cannot substitute the clinical encounter. The advice I've given you is about a mild to moderate case of tendinitis but I can't confirm it's a tendinitis without clinical examination data.
