What Causes Pain In My Middle Back That Mimic Sciatica Pain?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Apr 2015
Question: I had a question about my back I recently discovered
that I have a protruding disk on l4 l5 that's pressing on the l4 nerve root. Though I do have symptoms down my leg and in my glute that mimic sciatica now my middle back has started to hurt. Could this be something else like kidneys, a different disk where they only did an mri on my low back, or a symptom of the disk that's already injured? I can send a picture of the position if need be

Brief Answer:
Can be a muscular strain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The pain in the middle back can be a muscular strain or a different disc causing the problem. You can do a hot compress in the painful area and apply a local analgesic gel in the area. Do take an oral muscle relaxant and see if it improves.
In case the pain is persistent then do consult an orthopedician for clinical examination and proper investigations.
Usually such condition improves with medicines and regular physiotherapy.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

It seems to get worse when I walk around a bunch or when I press directly on the spine and surrounding lats. ot does improve with the pain medication the doctor gave me and the muscle relaxers. it was kinda sudden and I can't think of anything I did that would have strained it

Brief Answer:
Muscle related pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
If the pain improves with pain killers and muscle relaxants then it is likely to be a muscle related pain. You can wait for a week and see if it subsides on its own.
Hope my answer is helpful.
