What Causes Pain In Ribs In An Elderly Person With Spinal Stenosis?
Question: I am a 63 year old female. Have two heart stents but have been fine since. I also have spinal stenosis (diagnosed at mayo last July). It is at L3/L4. The other evening while doing dishes I leaned over and stood up...searing pain around T7/T8. Thought a nights sleep would help.... It didn't. My question is this....now my ribs on either side at about the same location...from my back around the front are very painful. It isn't chest pains....I'm not coughing or otherwise sick....can a hurt back radiate through the ribs at the same level....around to the front?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
First of all your symptoms aren't typical for cardiac issues, but most likely are related to spine damage.
Most probably the pain is originating in the spine and it spreads on both ribs around to the front.
If you were my patient I would recommend to do as follows :
- Spine x-ray
- Spine CT or MRI scan
- Use hot bags
- Use voltaren or deep relieve creams locally
- Use Tylenol and Advil orally to relieve the pain
Hope this will be of help!
Wish you health!
