What Causes Pain In The Lower Back Radiating To The Leg?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Sep 2016
Question: Several years ago I had my spine fused from L4-S1, I now have horrible pain, I know the nerve is involved, on my lower right side, shooting pain down my right leg. I'm very active (3 horses, gardening, and swimming) so please don't tell me to stretch or do PT. I'm not sure if it is in my hip or lumbar area. I just can't take the pain anymore!

Brief Answer:
New imaging studies are necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

First, it is necessary for new imaging studies evaluation of your lumbosacral spine current situation with X-rays and MRI.

Since the pain is unbearable, stronger painkillers/antineuralgic drugs may be used ( Amytriptiline, Oxycodone, etc.).

Rest for few days, warm procedures on your back may help improving your symptoms.

Spinal epidural injections also are another possibility to control pain.

If these treatment ways fail to improve your condition, and if imaging results indicate it, surgery may be necessary.

Please discuss with your Doctor about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
