What Causes Pain In The Rear Part Of The Mouth?

Question: I have pain in the rear part of my mouth (lower tongue) and it extends a bit into my ear. began yesterday, worsening today. Ideas on what is the cause?

Thanks for the query..

As per your complain pain in rear part of mouth can be due to a number of causes like deep tooth decay, cracked tooth, wisdom tooth related problems , salivary gland Infection etc..

Please answer the following questions so that I can guide you better..

1.Do you have any decayed tooth in the area where you have pain?
2.Do you see any gum swelling?
3.Do you have wisdom teeth present, if yes is there swelling of the gum flap around wisdom tooth?
4.Is there any swelling under the tongue or do you have pain in tongue movement?
5.Is the pain always present or occurs on chewing or other activities?
6.Is there any difficulty in opening mouth or is the mouth opening reducing?
7.Any swelling under the jawline or cheek?
8.Do you have any medical problems or are you on any medications?

Please revert back with answers..

Seems like Infection in salivary gland..

Hi..
Thanks for the answers..

As per your answers and location of the pain it can be either related to Infection in submandibular salivary gland or there is also a possibility that there in infection in lymph nodes in that area..

So my suggestion is to first get it confirmed..

You should consult an Oral Physician or an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and a clinical examination and investigation like x ray can help in diagnosis..

In case of Infection a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen or Naproxen can help..

As of now you can continue taking painkillers to cope up with pain..
