What Causes Pain In The Right Side Of The Forehead?

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Apr 2017
Question: Hello Doctor,
Starting from April last year 2016, I started getting some pain on the right side of the forehead. Slowly that pain started occuring around right hand side and little bit on top of the head as shown in the attached picture. I sometimes feel this pain more even when I pull my hairs back from that location and pains when I touch that location. This happened for 3-4 months and went away in between when i got Chocken pox and I took lots of fever reducing tablets, This pain again started in December, 2016. I am afraid if this can be Skull Osteomyelitis or Meningitis? I get this pain even when I try to read something on my phone while walking.
I feel better when my hairs are soft. Also, sometimes my right ear become very hot when I becomes anxious due to some reason. My primary doctor did some regular blood tests and said it could be because of sinus and there is nothing serious to worry.

Brief Answer:
Supportive care

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. Pain on right side of forehead, with involvement of right hand, and pain worsening on touching the area of forehead and history of sinusitis could be sequela of sinusitis. This headache could be sinusitis. However unilateral headache worse on touching should be evaluated for migraine and i would suspect trigeminal neuralgia in differentials though less likely as that pain is unbearable and not even touchable. But with history of viral infections in recent past, that should be evaluated for. Meningitis and or osteomyelitis is highly unlikely as presentation in not localised and mostly systemic.

I would suggest do as directed by your doctor, take some neuropathic pain killers like amitriptyline or pregabalin should be taken for a while and supportive home remedies should be considered.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
