default
Posted on Wed, 1 Jul 2015
Question: I have food allergies that cause my esophagus to close and long, thick saliva to collect in my mouth. This all starts during a meal with hiccups, then not being able to swallow any more food. It is now becoming more painful during an attack. I also have GERD and heatal hernia.

Brief Answer:
you might be having esophageal spasm.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your concern.
In my opinion, you are mostly having esophageal spasm.
It is painful contraction of esophagus muscle.
It is mostly associated with hiatus hernia and GERD.
So better to first consult gastroenterologist and get done upper GI scopy with esophageal manometry to rule out esophageal spasm.
Calcium channel blockers are treatment of choice for this.
So better to first diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
