What Causes Painful Legs In A Person With High BP And Type 2 Diabetes?

Hope you are well?
I am a 36 year old male. I am overweight and also type 2 diabetic.
I also have chloestrol and also hypertension.
Although these are well controlled.
Since yesterday i am getting very restless and painfull legs.
Also a stretching feeling at the top of my calf and behind knee.
What could this be?
I am currently taking trimethoprim 200mg for a uti. Could this be a side effect?
What medications are you taking for cholesterol?
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about these pains that you have reported. Yes, these are possible side effects of bacterium. However drugs used for cholesterol also have these side effects and I will like to know if you are using any other medications for this that may explain why you are more likely to have this problem.
My immediate plan would be for you to take in much fluid to help eliminate any metabolites/breakdown products that may be responsible for this pain. Also, update the list of your medications to me. Finally, I would like to know what you are taking bacterium for.
I hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience and would provide more information on how to go about this. Until then, I wish you well.

This pain could be more likely with atorvastatin!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for this follow up information. Atorvastatin is a more likely cause of these muscle pains than trimethoprim. If the symptoms are not to disturbing, carry on with the medications and only seek further help if the pains become so severe. For now, avoid rigorous exercise and drink much water. If you have any other symptom like abdominal pain, please report to me for more insights.
I hope this helps. I wish you well.

I said atorvastatin is more likely but not the only possible cause!
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up.
In the first response, I said muscle soreness is a recognised side effect of trimethoprim. However, atorvastatin is a more common cause of this. Because you have been taking atorvastatin for longer periods with no problems until the addition of trimethoprim, we would tilt the odds towards it.
For now, we are with trimethoprim.Of the two, atorvastatin is more likely to cause similar symptoms but the timeline doesn't support this.
I hope this clarifies the concept and reasoning. I wish you well.

There is no reason changing at this time!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
UTI treatment is generally of a very short duration. There is really no rush to switch drugs as your treatment would soon be over. IT is usually not more than 3-5days and I believe that’s what your doctor recommended. Unless it is extended, I will not change the drug at this time. If the muscle pain persists please get ck levels checked.
I hope this makes sense. if for any reasons you think otherwise, let me know!
