What Causes Pale Colored Stool, Upper Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea?
![default](/r/images/default.png)
Question: I have been having pale colored stools for a week now with many bouts of diarrhea daily. I have upper abdominal pain mostly centralized. Last night I also started getting nauseated and vomited three times. I have had blood work that came back mostly normal and a unremarkable abdominal ultrasound and ct scan.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
It looks like acute gastroenteritis due to viral infection...
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.
From the data you provided It looks like acute gastroenteritis due to viral infection (entero viruses). Acute gastroenteritis from entero viruses is manifested with diarrhea (vomiting may be absent the first days) a normal blood work and CT scan.
IF you were my patient I would recommend to do:
- Drink plenty of waters
- Start probiotics
- Start tasectan
- Start antacids
This will be of help in your case.
Only if diarrhea persist after another week you should do a stool analysis.
Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!

I have no other symptoms of a viral infection. Have been diagnosed with IBS for years. The pain is getting worse and my abdomin is extremely tender to the touch especially in the center and left upper parts. I do not have my gallbladder or apendix any longer. My WBC ans RBC are normal. My cholesterol, triglycerides and bilirubin are all high, with bilirubin in my urine also. I also have very itchy skin recently but dont know if that is related.
I am just not convinced of a virus.
I have a history of colon cancer, crohns and uc in my immediate family.

Brief Answer:
stool examination advised as following
Detailed Answer:
Hi back,
At this point, I suggest to run stool examination and stool culture to rule out intestinal bacterial/parasitic infection.
If everything would result ok, then everything is due to IBS or colitis flare up.
The pale colored stool is because of frequent bowel movements you had.
Hope it helped!
