What Causes Pea Sized Nodule On The Thighs?
XXXXXXX
Sebaceous cyst or lipoma - the commonest cause
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/63 - hard pea sized nodule under the skin - on thigh - growing over last 5 months - wants to know whether to be concerned about ...
Since the nodule has been growing over the past 5 months to acquire the size of a pea, this is most probably a sebaceous cyst and the pent up secretion after resorption of water makes it appear hard.Although it will be XXXXXXX it usually attached to the skin hence does not move independent of skin.
Another possibility is of a lipoma, although it is never hard and does not grow so fast. It is freely XXXXXXX and is neither attached to the skin nor to the underlying muscles. It moves freely even if the muscles are made taught.
These are the commonest possibilities.
I would advise in such a situation the following:
Consult a General Surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination, investigations if any advised and get this removed for 2 reasons:
1. One gets rid of the disease which is not a normal part of the body.
2. And one gets confirmed diagnosis by histopathology.
I hope this answer helps you in decision making, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
