Question:
Hi,

Im a 23 year old woman who has been suffering with chest pain, tachycardia, and stomach issues for the last nine months. I have gone to the emergency room and several doctors and they have done labwork and ekg's and simply told me that it is purely anxiety or stress related. I have been seeing a new primary care physician who placed me on the beta blocker metopropol which has helped my rapid heart rate, but I am now experiencing chest and back pain and pain in my lower pack along with digestive issues and pain in my right leg in my calf. I am very concerned it is more than anxiety, but haven't really had any of my concerns taken seriously. Any advice would be appreciated. Also, I should mention I am obese and currently in the process of losing weight, am a vegan, and do not have any pre-existing conditions such as Diabetes or heart related illnesses.

Brief Answer:
Could be caused either by digestion or spine problems

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms,

Your complaints could be caused by digestion problems or spine problems.
I would advise you to see a gastroenterologist, discuss your complaints, a gastroscopy may be needed.
For ruling out spine problems you may need a MRI of spine.
Sometimes there is an underlying problem and anxiety develops, if it is not well diagnosed and treated. So, such patients have two problems.
About your analyses, there are slight deviations on your CBC results, I would advise you to be attentive with your diet, as you have slightly decreased Hemoglobin level.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health

What foods should I eat and or avoid to improve those levels? I was also wondering if its possible these issues could be a side effect of the metoprolol?

Brief Answer:
Welcome back

Detailed Answer:

It is not a side effect of metoprolol, can can caused by your vegan diet.
For increasing hemoglobin level, you should
1. use foods containing iron, such as spinach, lentils, cereals, almonds. Beetroot is very effective, also apples
2. increase vitamin C intake

Take care
