Brief Answer:
may be due to post nasal drip

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The most common causes of persistent coughing are: (1)post nasal drip (2) GERD (gastroesophageal reflux) (3) asthma

Of these, post nasal drip would be more likely to be associated with hoarseness as well though very severe reflux can also cause hoarseness to occur.
Post nasal drip is also the most common of the three to cause chronic coughing.

Post nasal drip and GERD can also worsen asthma.

There are some persons who are not aware of the drip itself and only have the results such as coughing or hoarseness as in your case.

You may want to consider the use of an anti histamine decongestant combination along with a topical steroid nasal spray eg nasonex, nasocort, flonase, rhinocort.

The anti histamine / decongestant combination would usually be over the counter eg claritine d, benadryl d, allegra d, zyrtec d

These medications sometimes have to be used persistently for weeks for improvement to occur.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
