What Causes Persistent Headaches And Dizziness In A Teenager?

Posted on Wed, 8 Mar 2017
Question: My 13 year old son is getting jabbing like headaches daily around 2-3 per day. He has a lump at the base of skull that is tender to the touch. He has headaches, is tired and has had some dizziness.
I took him to our GP yesterday and she checked the lump and said it was neck muscle tension. She was pressing firmly on the lump and he has had a constant headache since yesterday.
Should I be taking him back to doctorÉ

Brief Answer:
Medical reevaluation is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Probably the lump is pinching a nerve that supplies skin of the skull.

These nerves arise from upper cervical levels.

I think you should get your son back to the Doctor about reevaluation and treatment.

I suggest you also to discuss with the Doctor about getting done imaging studies (such MRI) in order to be sure about the nature of the lump.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Take care.
