Question: Hello Doctor,
My wife had a cortisone epidural for a diagnosed prolapse of vertebral disc L5 S1 some 7 weeks ago. So far there has been nor relief evident in her (severe) pain levels. Is there still any hope that this will occur or is a second shot necessary or advisable ? She is taking Zomorphe plus morphine patches for her ongoing pain management prescribed by her GP

Brief Answer:
May require 2 to 3 shots.

Detailed Answer:
Ho there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

Usually 2 to 3 injections are given every 3 to 6 months and if the person doesn't get relief, usually surgery in the form of Discectomy and posterior decompression is done.

She also needs Vitamin D and Calcium supplementation.

Kindly upload your MRI scans for me to be in a better position to help you.
