Nerve radicular compression due to disc
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.
Lumbo-sacral disc protrusions usually causes nerve roots compression of the nerves which pass down into lower limbs upto feet. The compression on these nerve roots at the origin from spine causes pins needles like sensations in the feet along with numbness.Medicines like pregabalin, duloxetine, amitriptyline along with methylcobalamin and calcium supplementation should be taken under guidance.Vitamin D deficiency should be checked for and if present, needs correction.Lastly, alone medicines may not help and spinal exercises on a regular basis are crucial for healing.
Hope that helps. If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow up.

thanks for your response. i 'm doing physiotherapy twice a week for almost a month at the referral of my family physician. however I feel little to no improvement and the symptoms described above have gotten worse. i'll try to see my family physician as soon as possible
to discuss the medications you mentioned. I have heard from my physiotherapist that lyrica is a good one. any thoughts?? also, can I take it while being on blood thinners??
thanks
Spinal exercises must be done regularly.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
Lyrica(Pregabalin) is of course the first line antineuralgic.I already mentioned about the same.Yes, it can be taken with blood thinners.
Further,I don't understand what do you understand by physiotherapy which you are doing twice a week. Physiotherapy actually means healing by physical exercises. So, the idea is that you should learn how to do spinal exercises from a physical therapist and do them on a regular basis at home. You will definitely show benefit.
Hope that helps. If you have some further questions, you are most welcome.
