What Causes Persistent Sialorrhea?
Question: My 33yrs old son who is Moderated retarded will sometimes go into a state of drooling and grunting for as much as an hour. When he is done, he does not remember it. Pretty scary. What could cause this?

You are probably right, it is most likely a seizure (partial complex) that is causing your son's symptoms, not just because the drooling, but alternation of consciousness is a strong factor that supports this possibility.
There is need for a neurological evaluation and, most important, brain function study (electroencephalography EEG ), in order to have a correct diagnosis.
MRI of brain also should be considered to evaluate any brain lesion that may manifest with seizures.
