What Causes Persistent Vaginal Bleeding?

Question: My period has lasted for two weeks and doesn't seem to be slowing down.

I'm sorry, it's actually been two months, not two weeks. And, I guess I did try by increasing the dosage of my birth control. Still, no change.

Is vaginal bleeding abundant or light, such as vaginal spotting?
Do you have any other health issues, such as abdominal pain, bloating...?
What kind of contraceptives do you use?
When was the last time you have seen your gynecologist?

Hello Dr. Mbiarra,

Thank you so much for your reply.

It seems to be a pretty consistent flow of red and/or dark colored blood.
I do seem a bit more bloated and do have some minor cramping on and off.
I take a birth control called "Nessa" or something like that.
I haven't seen my Gynecologist since the birth of my daughter 3 years ago as I don't have insurance.

I just wanted to check back and make sure that you had received my reply yesterday?

You should see your gynecologist

Hi dear again and apologize for late reply.

If your vaginal bleeding is like a menstrual cycle as you describe and you have more than one month with this issue,and you haven't done any pelvic exam within three years you should see your gynecologist urgently.

Your gynecologist will do minimally :
pelvic exam to see your cervix for any polyps
transvaginal scan to exclude uterine fibroids (benign growths ) or uterine polyps and inner layer of uterus
blood test for anemia
If your gynecologist will exclude that you haven't uterine fibroids or polyps and inner layer is within range than reason of continuous vaginal bleeding can be due to hormonal imbalance .
