What Causes Placenta Accreta?
Question: What causes placenta accerta? How does it affect both mother and child?
Brief Answer:
Tightly adherent placenta
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
Placenta caretaker means tightly adherent placenta. It is therefore identified following delivery, when the placenta is being removed. Since the baby has already been delivered, it would be unaffected. But unless the placenta is completely removed, the bleeding from uterus would not stop. Placenta caretaker therefore increases the chances of post parfum hemorrhage in the mother.

I was told that it can cause a small birth weight, that is jot true?
Brief Answer:
Associated but not causative
Detailed Answer:
Placenta accreta is sometimes associated with low birth weight. But that is not directly due to placenta accreta. Often the placenta in placenta accreta is a low lying one (placenta previa) and this makes it vulnerable to cause bleeding during pregnancy (antepartum hemorrhage). This hampers the nutrition of the baby and gives rise to poor weight gain.

So if you didnt bleed throughout pregnancy the fetal weight should not be affected?
Brief Answer:
Feto maternal placental insufficiency
Detailed Answer:
Now that is difficult to comment upon without considering the situation in detail. The placental size is important. The nature of IUGR also needs to be considered, whether it is symmetrical or asymmetrical. Hard to suggest without a detailed analysis.
