Posted on Fri, 19 Aug 2016
Question: What to do now? My mother had Fever for 8 days. Light fever. My mother did hard work in the heat and there was exposure to too much sunlight. For the past 3 days she could not eat properly. When the food is given to her, she feels like vomiting after taking few bites. A few minutes after she eats, she is going to the bathroom. The stool was not loose but the frequency of going to the bathroom greatly increased. She is very weak now and she is a diabetic patient. What should my mother do now? She is 45. She is having difficulty to sleep. Can she drink saline water? prescribe something please. She still cannot finish a single meal. She feels like throwing up

Brief Answer:
she needs immediate medical attention, please take her to your nearest ER..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX Welcome to HCM,

I've gone through your query in details, and understand your concern for your mother..

First of all, please don't panic and follow the advises-

You must ensure that she remain well hydrated, do not try to feed her forcefully..

Get WHO-ORS solution, empty a pack in 2 liter of mineral water let her drink it gradually over next 2 hrs, repeat it again after that and let her finish it in another 4 hrs..let her drink water also in between if she feels like..

Do not let her take any anti-diabetic medication for now, as chances of getting hypoglycemia with dehydration can be very high in this situation..

In the meanwhile , please take her to your nearest ER/Urgent care for an immediate physical examination as well as few investigations to rule an element of infection (i.e. CBC, Electrolytes, KFT, LFT, Stool R.M and C.S., Blood C.S., Chest and abdominal X-ray and/ ultrasound of abdomen), and appropriate antibiotic therapy with replenishment of fluid and electrolytes..

In view of gradual worsening of symptoms, I'm strongly suspecting systemic spread of infection and severity, hence advising you not to delay any more for further management..

Prescription of medication is beyond the scope of the online virtual medical forum, please try to understand..

Let me know if your having any further doubts, i'll be glad to clarify..

Let me know how she stays in the due course..

Take Care
Kind Regards
