What Causes Poor Sleep And Crying At Night By An Infant?

Is it normal for 11 months baby to keep getting up at night? what could be the possible reasons? Sometimes i understand that he wakes up due to hunger but mostly there are times, when he would start crying 15-20 mins after putting him to sleep. I generally put him to sleep after feeding him. I give him 210ml of formula milk at night so that he can sleep well but apparently he keeps getting up for other reasons. Cries out loud if i try to put him to sleep by rocking him and not nursing him. On days that he sleeps well, he wouldnt sleep for more than 3 hrs at a stretch and then keeps on getting up at night for feeds. i nurse him and he puts back himself to sleep.
because I have started office now and need to get up at 5 in the morning, this is getting really tough. please suggest what could I be doing wrong.
There can be various reasons for it
Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns but don't worry. There are various reasons which might be affecting his sleep at night such as:
- hunger
- discomfort due to high or low room temperature
- tight clothing
- need for emotional comfort
- discomfort due to teething
- discomfort due to viral gastritis
You may take the following measures to help him out:
- give him solid or semisolid complementary feeds before sleep such as porridge, rice, kheer, oats, etc. This will satisfy his appetite throughout the night.
- ensure comfortable room temperature and appropriate clothing at night time. Avoid over heating and tight elastics.
- Give paracetamol or crocin for a day if you feel the discomfort is due to teething.
- soft lullabies, cuddles before sleep will help.
- you may give esomac granules for 3 days if the above measures do not help. Its for gastritis which might be the causative reason.
Hopefully it will be of help.
Take care
