Brief Answer:
Go in to urgent care or ER for this to be evaluated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

While this may be a sprain, in which case rest and ice would be appropriate, I think you should go to the urgent care or ER to make sure it isn't a torn ligament or other significant damage. In the urgent care or ER, they can examine you and depending on what is damaged and the extent of the damage, come up with a plan.

I recommend that when you go in, that you request to be seen by a physician and not a physician's assistant or nurse practitioner.

For basic strains, what you are doing is appropriate: applying ice, and taking NSAIDs such as ibuprofen (aspirin is ok too but may not be as strong) 3x/day after eating, and resting.

On this health care service, we sometimes provide the duty of "triage", i.e. what to do next for a problem. In this situation, he needs to be seen.

Please let me know if I can provide further information.
