What Causes Pressure And Pain In Head?

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Feb 2015
Question: My skull gets pressure inside it and I relieve it by hand pressure which makes an audible cracking sound. It can be from the top of my skull down to my occiput. The cracking relieves the pressure and the pain. Is this normal? My skull cracks all the time. I thought the plates were fused after a certain age. Why does mine need to be cracked so much and need to be cracked to relieve pressure/tension?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to osteoporosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The scalp bones do have joints. The crackling can be due to weakening of bones due to osteoporosis also. You can get a skull X-ray done to rule out any bony pathology.
Do start taking calcium and Vitamin D3 supplements and see if it helps.
I hope this answers your query.

Very interesting and intriguing advice--worth pursuing. How much calcium and D3 daily would you suggest? With food or on an empty stomach?

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
You can start with at least 500 mg elemental calcium once a day at bedtime with milk. Do start with Vitamin D3 supplements after getting your levels evaluated. Usually a XXXXXXX of 60,000IU with milk once a week is sufficient.
Hope my answer is helpful.
