What Causes Pressure Behind Ears Spreading To Chin And Neck?

default
Posted on Sat, 4 Apr 2015
Question: Been to four doctors in four months with no relief for extreme pressure behind the ears that spreads down beneath the chin and neck. It's excruciating, ongoing and can't stand it!!!!!

Doc 1. Not to worry, it's allergies and will go away.

Doc. 2. Plastic surgeon provided a neck-lift in 2012. Had a CT done. It only showed left side sinus at cheek was the only thing that showed.

Doc. 3. Gave medicine to relieve infected lymph nodes. Still a problem.

Doc. 4. ENT described problem as cervix muscle spasms. Prescribed Physical therapy.

PT. Been to two sessions - It's no better ... I know it's too early to tell if this will work.

My feeling is that if it's a muscle spasm, would it bother me all day long and would the pressure be so extreme!

Brief Answer:
Seems to be eusthacian tube dysfunction.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having pressure behind the ear. I would like to ask you few more details.

Is there any ringing sound in ear or hard of hearing ?
Is your ear pressure associated radiating pain to corresponding hand ?

Kindly get back to be with the details.

Based in your clinical details, it appears to be Eusthacian tube dysfunction or age related deafness (sensorineural deafness) or neuralgia.

Eusthacian tube dysfunction occurs due to nose or sinus infection. senile deafness starts at sixties.

I suggest you to do audiometry ( eusthacian tube dysfunction, type and degree of deafness), x-cervical spine, x- tm joint ( temparo mandibular arthritis, cervical spondylosis). neuralgia requires detailed history and local examination. depending on the examination reports further treatment is required accordingly.

Kindly discuss with your treating doctor and go ahead for these investigations.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
ETD (eusthacian tube dysfunction)

Detailed Answer:

Hello again,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

Looks like ETD (eusthacian tube dysfunction) or neuralgia.

You need to undergo audiometry and re- evaluation with an ent surgeon for neuralgia.

Hope, I have answered your query.

Take care.
