What Causes Pressure In Chest Area After Having Imitrex?

Question: My wife took imitrex 50mg for a migraine. Feeling heavy pressure on chest. Took BP and it is 144/106 heart rate 66. She then took her Blood pressure medicine (nadolol 20mg) waited about 1/2 hour and took BP again, after resting, and it went down to 118/79 HR 60 and no more heavy pressure. Should she still go to ER?
Brief Answer:
Can wait if she doesn't have symptons any more
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
If she doesn't have any complaints, then it is not obligatory to refer to ER. You can take an regular appointment with you doctor.
But if she has heavy pressure in the chest again you should immediately refer to ER.
Hope I could help you

Wanted to thank you for your responses and let you know the results.
On our way to Church yesterday morning the pressure came back, not as strong but decided to head to the ER. Her BP was up again 170 / 94 HR 58.
EKG, X-Ray on heart and lungs, enzymes, and a series of troponin level checks. All tests came back negative although her Cardiologist said he felt the symptoms were directly related to the Imitrex and to stop taking it. He also changed her BP med from Nadolol - 20mg to Norvasc 2.5mg to start with. He said this should help with blood pressure and migraines. He also reminded her that this needs to be taken on a regular dailey schedule for it to help prevent the migraines. He let her know that had she been taking the Nadolol on a regular basis she might not have had the migraine to begin with and not felt like she had to take the imitrex. He also said he has seen cases of Imitrex causing an MI. Although rare, he has seen it.

Brief Answer:
Imitrex can worsen cardiovascular diseases
Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,
Actually Imitrex can worsen cardiovascular diseases, thus leading to complications, such as chest pain, heart attack, arrhythmias.
It was a good idea to withdraw Imitrex as your wife had complaints again.
Beta blockers (such as Nadolol) are good option for the treatment of migraine. CCBs (such as Amlodipin: Norvasc) also help migraine and are good choice for controlling blood pressure and angina.
In such patients if blood pressure and migraine are not controlled well with one medication, I would go for the combination of both: Beta blocker and CCB.
You should monitor you wife's blood pressure and heart rate and if she has elevated blood pressure again, you should see your doctor to revise the treatment.
Wishing a good health to your wife
