What Causes Pungent Odor From A Small Cut Near Nose Tip?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: I have a small cut near the tip of my nose that hurts and gives off a putrid smell. I did not realize the cut until recently although the area has been sore to the touch. I provoked it by plucking nose hairs.

Brief Answer:
cleaning with antiseptic and topical antibiotics may help

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

An odor usually indicates that an infection might be present, either bacterial or fungal though bacterial would be more likely.

You can try topical treatment to see if this would be effective for you, if there is no response or worsening then you may need to see your doctor for oral antibiotics.

Topical treatment includes: (1) cleaning the area with an antiseptic such as diluted bethadine or dilute hydrogen peroxide

(2)apply a topical antibiotic, you would be able to get one from your local pharmacy

Eg of topical antibiotics include neosporin, polysporin , bactroban, triple antibiotic

If after a few days (3 to 4) there is no improvement or worsening occurs then it would be best to see your doctor because oral antibiotics may be needed.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
