What Causes Purple Discoloration On The Penis Post Intercourse?

Question: I'm 63 and after sex with my wife last night I noticed the base of my penis was swollen and need purple brusing of mt penis and scrotum. No pain or discomfort first time this has happened. At 63 sex wasn't very vigorous. I take Cialis.

Are you taking any other medicines other than Cials? Like Existing, Aspirin, Clopidogrel,etc?
You have suffered bleeding under the skin of the base of penis or in the muscles near to the base of the penis. This could be due to some blood thinner medicines you are on.
I suggest that you apply warm foamentation to the area for a few hours, like a warm pack. And please avoid Cialis for a few days. If you are on any other medicines then let me know and I would be able to tell you whether to continue them or not.
As long as the swelling does not increase in size and there is no pain you are fine. If any of these things happen then please seek medical help.

I am on no other medications. The bruising is pretty significant. About half my penis is very deep purple, about a quarter of my scrotum. I'm assuming that Gravity is coming into play as the brushing seems to be dreading to the head of my penis and bottom of my scrotum, is that to be expected?

If you are not on any other medicines then it is possible that you have suffered an injury to your penis - a milder form of penis fracture.
I suggest you go to the ER and let a Surgeon have a look at it so that it can be repaired at the earliest.
The Surgeon can have a look and then the diagnosis would be clear. Without seeing it would be difficult to comment.
I suggest please see a Surgeon at the earliest.

I took your suggestion an visited the ER. The severe bruising was caused by broken blood vessels from the physical activity. No actions taken just rest to let the bruises go away. Though scary looking nothing serious.
