Posted on Tue, 12 Sep 2017
Question: I am taking two medications:
CoAmox Acino. For infection of spider bites on legs
Fevadol for pain

The bites seem to be healing, but one of my lower legs is turning red/purple..is this to be expected or am I having some sort of allergic reaction?.

Brief Answer:
Possibly cellulitis

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic for your health concern

Red discoloration of skin of leg is unlikely to be drug reaction.
Since you already have a point of infection, the major concern here is spread of infection causing cellulitis (infection of skin).
The risk of cellulitis is very high especially if you are diabetic. If cellulitis have developed you will need a more potent antibiotic than amoxicilkin/clavulanic acid. Depending on severity intravenous antibiotics may be needed
.Mild cases can be managed with oral clindamycin.
However, it is important to initiate antibiotics as soon as possible. So please be advised to follow up with your doctor today itself or go to the urgent care.

Hope this answers your questions

Dr. Lekshmi,

Your diagnosis was correct. Cellulitus, which spread rapidly after it first appeared just a few days ago

I followed your advice about initiating the strong antibiotics as soon as possible also.

Yesterday was Day-1 of a 5 day Treatment Plan. It includes 2x daily intravenous injections of Meropenem (1g dosage each), plus two other medications taken in tablet form Levofloxacin (500mg) and Desloratadine (5mg). I am starting to feel the difference already (less pain) also less swelling this morning.

I will keep you posted as long as my single use 'membership' stays active for this case.

Thanks for your help.
