What Causes Pus Formation Under The Skin Of Right Cheek?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Oct 2014
Question: I have a deposit of what seems to be pus formation under the first few layers of skin on the right cheek towards the ear. This was formed last year and remained for about a month before it broke and I made sure to squeeze it out as much as possible. It's come back a few days ago. This along with recurring "pouches' of pus formation occur on my face, sometimes more rapidly, and for some day I don't have any. These are painful and happen mostly where there is hair on my face. I like to have facial hair, but when I don't these are fairly much much lesser, next to none.

Is it because of the hair? I smoke marijuana, could that be causing these? I smoke as well, but not too much, 5 to 6 on the most busiest of days. What should I do to be permanently be cured from these?

Brief Answer:
It looks like Sebaceous cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
As per your description, the swelling looks like a Sebaceous cyst. It occurs due to collection beneath the hair follicle. It gradually grows in some and may get infected.
It has to be removed surgically.
Multiple abscesses are more common in face. The source of bacteria can be from the nose . Please collect the pus and send it for culture and sensitivity. After the report, appropriate antibiotic can be used.
There should be no trauma while shaving.
There is no relation to Marijuana smoking.
I prescribe Antibiotic like Clindamycin capsule to my patients with similar complaints, pending culture report.
If appropriate antibiotic is used , it may get cured permanently.
Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
