What Causes Raised Liver Enzymes?
Question: Hi. I recently did a home blood test as I'm due to get my driving licence back but have to have a medical and blood testit came back as
Bilirubin 7
Alkaline phosphhatase. 75
AST. 174
ALT. 95
GGT. 143
Protein 75
Albumin. 43
Globulin 32. I have low iron count And take iron tabs and also I'm on anti depressants. If there is a problem with these indicators can you advise on reducing the figures. I do drink alcohol but have reduced intake substantially over the last few months Thank you

Your liver enzymes are significantly raised.
The pattern of the raise in the liver enzymes is suggestive of alcoholic hepatitis.
You need to quit drinking alcohol for the liver to recover.
There are other causes of raised liver enzymes as well of which viral infections Hepatitis B and C are very significant. You need to get tested for these as well.
Also an ultrasound scan of the abdomen needs to be done to see whether you have features of chronic liver disease.

Can you advise if there is any food or supplements which would help. And if I stop drinking how quickly would these indicators reduce ???? Thank you for your help in this matter

You can continue taking milk thistle.
If you stop drinking , the enzymes would return to baseline within 3 months.
