Question: I'm a 26 ur old female and a Dr just diagnosed me with shingles. The rash around my ear and down my neck is less than a week old. My question is can I spread in to my genital area during masturbation? Or can I spread something to my partner during sex?

Brief Answer:
Shingles only transmittable to people without history of chickenpox

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you have shingles. Shingles is caused by the chickenpox virus growing out from a nerve root. The rash will stay in the place you have it now. It will not transfer to another part of your body. The virus only lives in that particular nerve root.

You can transmit the chickenpox to others who have not been vaccinated with Chickenpox or have never had chickenpox. So you partner can get it only if they never had the infection or the vaccine.

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
