What Causes Recurring UTI In A 2 Year Old Infant?
Needs further evaluation
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Urinary tract infection is uncommon in children. The first urinary tract infection is usually treated without evaluation but since it has recurred it requires further investigations.
Apart from ultrasound these investigations are recommended
1. Urine culture
2. Micturating cystourethrography to rule out reflux of urine back into the kidneys
3. I suggest getting a DMSA scan as well at a later date if it recurrs
I usually treat with Ciproflox twice a day for 5 days. Taxim is also a good drug. But please make sure to get urine culture done before starting antibiotics
I also suggest
1. Keep the pubic area clean
2. Avoid voiding in public toilets
4. Let drink plenty of water and avoid dehydration
5. Use only cotton under pants
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
Regards

my query is why does this occur repeatedly and is repeat UTI for a 2 year kid is a concern and if so what should I do further
Recurrent UTI
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for getting back
Repeated urinary tract infection in children is most often because of anatomical abnormalities like reflux nephropathy. The other causes are improper hygiene especially diaper related infections. Which is why it is important to get the investigations I have asked for
The culture reports have isolated different organisms so it is a recurrent infection rather than a relapse which is more cause for concern
