What Causes Recurring Tingling Sensation In Right Shoulder?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jul 2015
Question: I have had a tingling in my right shoulder for the last five days. It comes and goes. It sometimes extends down to my right elbow. I have no other right side pains, or pains anywhere else. I had my semi-annual physical a week ago and my blood pressure was normal. My nuclear stress test last December showed no problems. I am 73 years old and active. I usually walk 6 miles twice a week pushing my golf cart and occasionally ride my stationery or road bike, but not strenuously. I had one artery blockage 14 years ago and there is a history of heart problems in my family - my father dies at 42. Should I be concerned about this tingling?

Brief Answer:
check your cervical spine

Detailed Answer:
Hello ,
I am Dr.Rajesh Teli ,MD.
I have gone through your query .Thanks for using HCM.
Your tingling in right shoulder is not related to heart ,usually that is not the site of heart pain.even if exceptionally it occurs ,it is precipitated or exaggerated by exertion and walking.even today your exercise stemina is good .moreover your nuclear stress test was normal few years back and you are already on statin and aspirin which protects you against heart disease.
Your tingling appears due to nerve root compression in neck.At your age common problem is cervical spondylosis.
I suggest you to get your cervical spine AP and lateral view done.If needed you may go for MRI cervical spine.Depending upon report you may need ortho or neuro opinion.
I suggest you to inform me plain X ray of cervical spine I suggested.
My best wishes
Dr.Rajesh Teli,MD
